It's been a long time

I can't believe that I haven't blogged since last October.  That's sad.  We've made some amazing memories since then, my kids have said some funny stuff, (Eli:  "Me do it... Me awesome!"), but no bloggy goodness.  Sadness.

I wish that I could telepathically write my blog.  How amazing would that be?

Let's rewind to October...

The weekend after my last post, we celebrated Matthew's 30th & Eli's 3rd birthdays in Brown County with our nearest and dearest.  We had an awesome, relaxing weekend and I think that Matthew really enjoyed his gift of not having to prepare our house for a big party.

Later in the month, we celebrated Halloween at the Gessners with a turtle soup party.  Everyone dressed up in AMAZING costumes and we had a great time.  The Gessner/Koenig clan knows how to have a good time!

Owen also started Karate in October.  He really enjoys it and it's been great for him. On February 10th, he'll be promoting to a gold belt.

November came and went. We soaked up the last of the decent weather.  We took the boys bowling.  Eli has his first dental appointment.  We celebrated Thanksgiving and it was nice.

December brought our long awaited Disney vacation.  We were there for the first week in December and I am convinced that it is the best time of the year to go to Disney. (Not that I have a personal basis for comparison- but I'm still convinced!)  We had BEAUTIFUL weather, stayed in a gorgeous resort, and visited totally un-busy theme parks.  The boys had an incredible time and we really enjoyed getting to spend the week together.  They still talk about Disney World all of the time! Another highlight was all of the Christmas decorations.  There were huge, beautiful Christmas trees everywhere we went and more Christmas lights than I've ever seen anywhere. Ever.   It was hard to feel like it was Christmas time though with the bright sunshine and 80 degree weather.   All-in-all in was a wonderful trip, and I'm sure that we'll go back.

After returning home, the countdown to Christmas was on.  Before we knew it, the tree was surrounded by colorful gifts and the fridge was packed with yummies. But guess what.  I have exactly one photo from Christmas day 2011.

Yep. That's me at the hospital. On Christmas day. Getting ready to go in for an appendectomy.  AWESOME.   When I woke up that morning, I felt mildly nauseous- but knew that I had both sides of the family coming, so I needed to be a solid player.   By lunch time, my solidness was slipping and I went to bed once everyone sat down to eat.  By the time my mom and mother-in-law were finishing cleaning up, (God bless them), I knew that something wasn't right and I asked my mom to take me to the hospital.  By 6 pm we knew it was appendicitis, by 9:30 I was in an OR with a holly jolly surgical team, and by 10:45, Matthew was holding photographs of my various internal organs after a successful laparoscopic appendectomy.

It was quite the shock, but we were blessed to have lots of family around to help while Matthew stayed with me in the hospital, and after we returned home while I recovered.

January came. We rang in the New Year in a low-key, post-surgical manner with our best friends.  Again, one picture?  I don't know.

Since then, we've fallen back into a regular schedule.  Matthew and I are back to work.  Owen's doing Karate two nights a week, and I'm teaching FPU.  The world is as it should be- busy.

I do need to blog more though.  It's good for my soul.

I won't make promises, but I'll try to be back soon.
